Indian defence exports

India still imports about 70% of its defence equipments. Till date we don't produce our own fighter jets and many other essential equipments. As mentioned by our Defence Minister Mr Antony, this is not only shameful but dangerous. We hardly export defence equipments. So much about the dark side of our defence story. Let us now look at the brighter side. We have a large population and there is no shortage of young people ready to join the defence services. Many European nations and Americans are having difficulty in recruiting people for defence services. This is where we can join hands with friendly countries. Our young people should be allowed to join the armed forces of the countries with whom we have deeper defence relations. This will lead to a two way cooperation and the dependence will be mutual. Chances of one blackmailing another will be much less. Government of India should think over seriously about this and work at diplomatic level to ensure that our young people can join American and some european and possibly even Japanese armed forces.

Mr Kalkhande...read your article but it is just too weak. you have suggested so many things but i didn't find even a single one that is concrete. First of all the point about india exporting weaponry for which we have to be self sufficient to provide adequate weapons at least IS duties of the country. India made Insas, but that too isn't a big success. Leave apart manufacturing something, Saint Antony ji is way too apprehensive about procuring arms from overseas as it will taint his image of a good politician. And rest if India wants to develop the weapons itself, it is best to outsource it so that PSUs are set up specifically for this. Most of the modern weaponries that's manufactured overseas is by pvt vendors. And about indian youth joining Forces of other countries, India doesn't stop anyone from doing that. It's just the apprehension of the foreign nations when it comes to the loyalty factor. The questions here is Will country like US and UK accept indian soldiers with limited or no loyalty and thus binding them to have cordial relation with india and thus creating a situation wherein they can't put any pressure on India for anything. Maybe India doesn't have bureaucrats who can anticipte it but those countries i assure are much more smarter
